Naissance à Caudebec les Elbeuf.
Décoré de la Médaille Militaire et de la Croix de Guerre avec Palmes (14/18) (39/45).
Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
Médaille de la Résistance.
Médaille de Sauvetage.
Médaille d 'Or de l'éducation nationale.
Médaille de Professeur d'éducation physique.
Professeur d'éducation physique au Lycée Corneille (actuellement Lycée A. Maurois).
Maître-Nageur Sauveteur à Veules les Roses 76.
Pendant 30 ans, va prendre en charge l'organisation des Fêtes de la Jeunesse des Écoles Publiques du Canton d'Elbeuf.
Ci-joint des notes pour l'organisation des fêtes de la jeunesse 1952.
Professeur d'éducation physique au Lycée, à l'école primaire supérieure, à l'école pratique de l'industrie mais aussi aux orphelins d'Elbeuf, il avait un rôle important à l'Alsacienne Lorraine d'Elbeuf ainsi que la direction de la société de gymnastique des orphelins d'Elbeuf.
Vous trouverez ci-joint des documents sur la soirée de bienfaisance en 1935 qui avait lieu au cinéma Omnia au profit des Orphelins.
Pour l'anecdote, ancien Conseiller Municipal à la ville d'Elbeuf en 1935, il était aussi président de la J.O.F.I.R.E.C. Sté Municipale des Jardins Familiaux d'Elbeuf. (Voir dans les documents du site, le papier entête de cette association)

Dans son éloge funèbre, il sera fait mention de son dévouement, de son désintéressement mais aussi de son attachement à l'Alsace.
Cela se vérifiera par son investissement dans la société de gymnastique « L'Alsacienne Lorraine » et par ses échanges avec la « Vogésia » de Strasbourg de son grand ami, Charles PAULUS.

Une carte de Voeux qui montrent le lien très fort avec des familles en Alsace.
Il faut noter que la famille SCHNEIDER est sur Elbeuf depuis bien avant 1870, Fernand Alfred Désiré SCHNEIDER (Père de Désiré SCHNEIDER) étant né à Elbeuf en 1870.
Elbeuf va devenir après 1870, une ville quasiment « Alsacienne » avec la venue de nombreuses familles de l'Est de la France fuyant des régions conquises par l'Allemagne.
La preuve par de nombreuses rues dans l'agglomération :
Rue D'Alsace / Rue de Strasbourg / Rue Scheurer Kestner / Rue du Pasteur Roehrich / rue de Bischwiller / rue de Lorraine / ...

« N'oublions pas un personnage qui fit une longue carrière au Petit Lycée : Désiré SCHNEIDER,
le professeur de gymnastique. Ce vigoureux Alsacien, à la vaste carrure, toujours coiffé d'un béret basque, ancien combattant de la guerre 14-18, ne manquait jamais une occasion d'exprimer ses sentiments patriotiques et de rappeler ses exploits militaires. Il avait l'immense mérite d'être l'unique organisateur, chaque année des Fêtes de la Jeunesse et de faire évoluer sur le Champ de Foire, après un long défilé, dans des mouvements d'ensemble impeccables, des centaines d'enfants des écoles publiques d'Elbeuf et du canton, Lycée compris. »
